Ovations Fine Arts Instructor Receives Prestigious Ethics Award

Lucy Monette, an Ovations Instructor, meets with the Dean of Students to receive her Prestigious Ethics Award.
The Ethics Award is given by the Center for Ethics in the University of Tampa John Sykes College of Business. The award is given to both an exemplary individual in the Tampa Bay community who demonstrates integrity, virtue and character as well as an undergraduate student who exemplifies high ethical standards at the University, upholds social responsibility practices in the community and exhibits strong potential for professional success. This award was not given to a student in 2010 because the Center for Ethics did not feel like any of its applicants met their standards. However, this year the Center for Ethics believed two students, Meghan Nagy and Lucy Monette deserved the award!
Lucy was nominated by the adviser to the Peace Volunteer Center, a job she has held since freshman year. She then went through an interview process with those in charge of the Center of Ethics. Lucy was nominated for her service to the Peace Volunteer Center by establishing invaluable connections with local non profits, developing, and implementing the Site Leader Program which increased the number of volunteer events offered per month as well as providing 65 children with Christmas gifts at the All Nations Outreach Center and helping to bring Relay for Life to the University and raising over 100,000 for the American Cancer Society since 2008. The recipients were awarded with a luncheon with the Dean of Students as well as other important figureheads of the University. They also received a plaque with our name on it as well as $500 to go towards endeavors after graduation!
Lucy Monette is one our fantastic Fine Arts teachers as well as the volunteer coordinator for Ovations School for the Arts. She is an asset to this school and a beautiful person both inside and out. We are very proud to have Ms. Monette on our staff. Congratulations Lucy!!!

New! Field Trip Fridays

Ovations School for the Arts is proud to announce our new Field Trip Series. Ovations field trips are open to any volunteer, student, and family interested in joining us. All Homeschoolers are welcome. On the third Friday of every month during the School Year Ovations will be hosting a field trip to various places around the Tampa Bay Area. We will be visiting some amazing places. For our very first field trip of the new year we will be heading off to the Suncoast Seabird Sancuary on Friday, February 18, 2011. We have an exciting trip to Weedon Island planned for Friday, March 18, 2011 and an incredible trip to Bradenton’s Mixon Fruit Farms, a citrus farm scheduled for Friday, April 15, 2011. Please feel free to access our website for more details www.ovationsarts.org

On Friday, February 18 Ovations School for the Arts will be having our first field trip of the new semester.  We will be going to the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary.  Admission is free but Ovations would be proud to donate something off their wish list in exchange for each admission. Please peruse their wishlist  located at http://www.seabirdsanctuary.com/Wish_List.html and choose an item(s) that would benefit them. They would greatly appreciate the donation.  The tour is scheduled for 11:00 AM and the address is 18328 Gulf Blvd, Indian Shores, Fl. 33785.  Please RSVP to info@ovationsarts.org and type “February Field Trip” in the subject line. RSVP and payment* are due no later than February 4th   with the number of students and adults attending as we will need to give the Sanctuary people an exact count.  They need to know how many tour guides to book for us.  Also, let us know if you will be meeting the group at the school or at the Sanctuary, and if you would be willing to give others a ride.  We should be leaving the school about 10:15.  Please arrive a little early so we can get organized and assign extra people to cars.  Bring a picnic lunch and permission slips will be downloadable from the Ovations website and available on campus and need to be turned in before your child can go on the trip.

On Friday, March 18 will be a trip to Weedon Island Preserve and Natural History Center at 1800 Weedon Drive NE, St. Petersburg, Florida 33720.  Our tour is scheduled for 10:00 AM.  Admissions are free, but as all non-profits can attest to donations in any amount, are always welcome. Weedon Island is a great resource for our community and Ovations would like to recommend offering a $3.00 donation for each student. Please consider giving this donation, although it is a donation and not a requirement to attend.  Please RSVP to info@ovationsarts.org and type “March Field Trip” in the subject line. RSVP and payment* are due no later than March 1  with the number of students and adults attending so the Weedon representatives know how many tour guides to book for us.  Also, let us know if you will be meeting the group at the school or at the Island, and if you would be willing to give others a ride.  We should be leaving the school no later than 9:30 AM.  Please arrive a little early so we can get organized and assign extra people to cars.  Bring a picnic lunch and permission slips will be downloadable from the Ovations website and available on campus and need to be turned in before your child can go on the trip.

Friday, April 15 we will be traveling down to the Bradenton area to visit Mixon Fruit Farms.  There is a tram tour booked for 11:00 AM.  We will travel through the groves to see the different types of Citrus trees.  Also, on the premises we can visit a Koi Pond, Butterfly Garden and wetlands that are a bird watchers paradise.  Don’t forget you cameras.  The cost for this trip will be $6.00 and the students will receive lunch as part of the cost.  A choice of a hotdog, peanut butter or corndog is available.  Visit their web site at http://www.mixon.com/default.asp .  Their address is 2712 – 26th Ave. east, Bradenton, FL. 34208-7427.  Please RSVP to info@ovationsarts.org and type “April Field Trip” in the subject line. RSVP and payment* are due no later than April 1  with the number of students and adults attending as we will need to give the Mixon people an exact count. They need to know how many tour guides to book for us.  Also, indicate your choice of lunch and let us know if you will be meeting the group at the school or at the farm.  We should be leaving the school about 9:45 AM.  Please arrive a little early so we can get organized and assign extra people to cars.  Those who are willing to give others a ride are greatly appreciated.  Permission slips will be downloadable from the Ovations website and available on campus and need to be turned in before your child can go on the trip.

The Disclaimer...

In order to meet insurance standards, Ovations does require a permision slip for all school-aged children under the age of 18 attending, whether the child is enrolled at Ovations or not. Our permission slips will be available in a digital format online for print and can be emailed with RSVP or either dropped off or mailed to: Ovations School for the Arts 2100 4th St S, St Pete, FL 33705. The permission slips may also be brought the morning of the field trip. We also need a minimum of 1 adult Chaperone to every 5 children attending and welcome more. So if you are able to attend or know of an adult who would love to attend encourage them to do so. Ovations does not have our own transportation so we rely on adults to drive the students, we do prefer to car pool for those of us with bigger vehicles. While Ovations School for the Arts strives to keep everything low cost many of the places that we are visiting are struggling as well, we may ask for small donations in exchange for entrance for each of the programs. In these cases if you are unable to donate, you will not be turned away. We want this program to benefit as many as we can regardless of situation.
*Payment, if necessary, may be made online through paypal or via check made payable to Ovations School for the Arts mailed or dropped off to 2100 4th St S, St Petersburg, FL 33705

Please feel free to email us at info@ovationsarts.org for more information!
